What is Special about Zanzibar?

Zanzibar earned the name "Spice Islands" as there are so many spices that you have probably not seen or heard of. A visit to Zanzibar won't be complete until a visit to the spice plantations where your nose will beckon on you to keep it there forever. Spices like cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla are present dishing out their exotic fragrance into the atmosphere for miles.

Stone Town/Night Life/Music/Food

Stone Town is practically a living history. When you step into this city the old lives of the various cultures that have inhabited the area come to bear. There is a mix of Swahili and Arabian influences with the narrow streets, bubbling markets, and doors that have been carved with special details. Stone town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The nightlife in Stone Town is unforgettable with the cultural music and food. Yes! the food on the streets is mouth-watery, the fragrance goes for miles. Visitors are captivated with so much within the friendly community that most have made it a yearly vacation spot.  Immerse yourself in Zanzibar's rich cultural history by joining some of the locals in the traditional spice tasting, enjoying live Taarab music performances, and witnessing the energetic dances of the locals. Zanzibar cuisine is a delightful fusion of Swahili, Indian, and Arab influences. Sample dishes like biryani, pilau, and Zanzibar mix—a spicy and flavorful concoction of grilled meats and seafood. The night food markets in Stone Town offer an authentic taste of local culinary delights.

Beaches/Ocean

Zanzibar offers some of the best white sand beaches you can find anywhere in the world with its turquoise waters and palm trees. The marine conservation area is renowned for its vibrant coral gardens and diverse marine life. Snorkeling and diving expeditions reveal a kaleidoscope of colors beneath the surface, with opportunities to encounter turtles, dolphins, and a myriad of tropical fish.
Zanzibar has its traditional sailing vessels called the dhow. It ferry tourists across to explore hidden coves, snorkel in crystal-clear waters, and witness the mesmerizing spectacle of a Zanzibar sunset while gently gliding on the Indian Ocean. Talking about sunset, this is one for the cameras, so when you plan a visit to the Spice Islands, make sure you have yours ready to capture the beauty of the sunset.
While Zanzibar's main island is a tourist haven, Pemba Island, on the other hand, is a place to see. It is secluded and less frequented by tourists. Pemba is known for its lush landscapes, pristine beaches, and vibrant coral reefs. It offers a quieter retreat for those seeking a more intimate experience.

Prison Island
The prison island is one of the talk-about spots as most visitors want to have the experience of sharing the streets with the giant Aldabra tortoise. From Stone Town to the prison island requires a short boat ride, and you will come face to face with giant tortoises, some of which are over a hundred years old. Visitors can interact with and feed these remarkable creatures, creating a memorable and unique experience.

Nature lovers will find solace in Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, the last refuge of the endangered Zanzibar red colobus monkey. Stroll along elevated boardwalks through the lush forest to catch glimpses of these vibrant primates, as well as other indigenous flora and fauna. This is an experience that travelers and nature lovers crave. These monkeys are some of the rarest and you probably won't see their kind anywhere else.
